weddings and civil ceremonies

'We just wanted a special place for our special day. We couldn't have asked for a more dramatic, romantic and private setting." Mark and Alan, London

Caisealrag is fully licensed for weddings and civil partnerships, including the fields surrounding the house and along the rugged coast. We would be happy to suggest locations when you arrive and witness your ceremony if required.

Take your vows on a sandy beach or the site of an ancient fort. Surrounded by sheep, basking seals, swirls of seabirds over head and if you are lucky enough, some otters at play and golden eagles soaring it will be a moment you will remember for ever.

At Caisealrag we offer complete flexibility and as the registrars will not conduct a ceremony in inclement weather, you can easily rearrange plans on the day. (We are not quite sure if this is really the law of the land or simply they don't fancy getting their hair wet.) Should you wish to have your civil ceremony on unlicensed ground, there is fee of £250 for a temporary license payable to Argyll and Bute Council.

Your commitment is the reason why you are here. From our experience, if you are looking to have a civil marriage, you may wish to consider a Humanist Ceremony as an alternative. This is the most important decision of your lives and we have all been deeply moved by the humanist ceremonies to date.

Scotland is one of only six countries in the world where Humanist marriage ceremonies are legal (the others are Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Norway and certain states of the USA). Humanist weddings have the same legal status as civil and religious weddings as long as they are conducted by an HSS Celebrant, who has been authorised by the Registrar General of Scotland. Same sex couples often choose to celebrate their commitment by having a Humanist ceremony, though these are not yet legally recognised.

Most Ministers within the Church of Scotland will also be happy to conduct your ceremony at Caisealrag or outside. The nearest churches to Crear are South Knapdale Parish Church in Achahoish and Kilberry Parish Church.

To ensure your complete privacy, we will apply to Argyll and Bute Council for an exemption order under the Land Reform Act on your behalf if you choose to hold any part of your celebrations outside.

Please note if you are planning a last minute commitment, the registrars require three weeks notice. For non UK passport holders, please allow three months for the relevant paperwork and visas to be in place.
